Make the Bridge Block and Upper Face Brace Caul.
In this lesson we will make the bridge block and upper face brace caul.
Make sure you have read this lesson all the way through before beginning the lesson. A word of advice is to practice on scrap.
| Start by making the bridge caul. I use 1" thick MDF. The caul dimensions are 1 3/8" x 8" x 1". | |
| Place the block in position and mark the brace positions. | |
| Connect the lines and saw them to a depth about 1-2mm deeper then the actual brace. | |
| Do the same for the bridge patch. Then take a sharp chisel and remove the material in the area of the bridge patch first. | |
| Remove the material in the position of the braces. | |
| Sand the brace side of the caul on a curved sanding board that is the same radius as the top. | |
| Check the fit. | |
| Measure the brace layout and remove the material from a 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" x 1" piece of MDF. | |
| Check the fit and make sure it fits through the soundhole. |
